Removing Old Paint and Wallpaper

Thinking of ways to renovate your home? Try updating the look of your walls by painting it anew. Finish it up with new wallpaper. Paint and wallpaper are two of the best ways to upgrade the appearance of the home. Wallpaper, in particular, is one of the most affordable means to improve the look of the walls.

Unfortunately, removing old paint and wallpaper can be difficult. It calls for hard work, spirited diligence and a lot of time on your hands because they do not come off very easily. Major physical exertion due to a lot of scraping, as well as dabbling with chemical solutions, are required when removing painted wallpapers off the wall.

If your wall is painted and covered with wallpaper at the same time, it is best to remove the old paint first because it takes a long time to get them off. You can use a paint scraper or sandpaper for this. As for the old wallpaper, removal solution and similar chemical mixtures make it easy to take it down. Commercial products are available at hardware stores. However, if you want to save on cash, you make your very own removal solution by mixing warm water with vinegar. A trick in removing stubborn and hard-to-get wallpaper is to steam them until it becomes easy to scrape them off the wall surface.

Once all the old paint and wallpaper are removed, you can now start painting it anew or post new wallpaper material on the wall surface. You can add other wall decors like paintings, pictures and photographs, and hang it on the walls.
